Keshet

A PARTNERSHIP FOSTERING INCLUSION

Keshet is a national grassroots organization that works for the full equality and inclusion of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Jews in Jewish life. Led and supported by LGBT Jews and straight allies, Keshet strives to cultivate the spirit and practice of inclusion in all parts of the Jewish community. We began as a small, grassroots group working for change in the Greater Boston area, and we are now a national organization with a west coast office in the Bay Area in addition to our national office in Boston.

Our work is guided by a vision of a world where all Jewish organizations and communities are strengthened by LGBTQ-inclusive policy, programming, culture, and leadership and where Jews of all sexual orientations and gender identities can live fully integrated Jewish lives.   LGBT Inclusion: Tools for the Front Line Jewish Educators Workshop

Dear Colleagues,

As Professionals working with teens in today's world it is important for us to address the question of how our educational settings include the experiences of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender members of our community. Our youth are coming out at younger ages, and LGBT adults are increasingly looking for inclusive and welcoming places for their families. To help us in this journey to be more inclusive, the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, the Center for the Advancement of Jewish Education, and Keshet (the national LGBT Jewish nonprofit), wish to invite you to participate in a FREE workshop: LGBT Inclusion: Tools for Front-Line Jewish Educators, occurring on Tuesday, June 2nd from 10:00 – 11:30 AM at the Greater Miami Jewish Federation.

This interactive workshop will help educators and youth professionals take initial steps in exploring LGBT inclusion from a Jewish perspective. We will start by allowing educators to bring their own voices into the conversation, sharing their hopes, questions, and concerns about LGBT inclusion. We will then establish a shared language for discussing inclusion by examining core LGBT terms and concepts, including the concept of heteronormativity & societal expectations around gender and how that can impact students and families. Educators will leave the workshop with concrete, Jewish values based, age-appropriate activities and lessons on how to create educational spaces inclusive of all identities and family structures.

We hope that you will be able to join us!
