“The more Torah, the more life; the more sitting [in the company of scholars], the more wisdom; The more counsel, the more understanding; The more charity, the more peace; if one acquires a good name, they have acquired something for themself; if one acquires for themself knowledge of Torah, they have acquired life in the world to come.” (Pirkei Avot/ Ethics of Our Ancestors 2:7)

It is powerful to witness firsthand the magic that unfolds when curiosity meets Jewish wisdom.

CAJE’s Department of Adult Learning & Growth is inspired by the stories and transformative experiences shared week after week by a dynamic community of learners.

Recently, a participant in the "Hineni, Here I Am" course taught by Rabbi Laila Haas, Director of Adult Learning, shared a profound shift in perspective:

“Now, when someone calls out to me, I do not answer ‘Here I am,’ right away. Instead, I pause and think. Am I prepared? Am I ready? Where am I? The words ‘here I am,’ have taken on new meaning for me. I am more aware of where I am, and conscious of where I hope to be. When I answer, ‘here I am,’ what I mean is, I am rooted, connected, and centered.”

"Jewish ah-ha" moments like this serve as the heartbeat of our community, showcasing the transformative power of Jewish education.

Our learners generally revel in the benefits of intellectual stimulation and community engagement.

In addition, our learners discover newfound passions and connections enriches their lives in unexpected ways.

One group of learners, who met through little Zoom squares in a CAJE Adult Learning class three years ago during the pandemic, has created a virtual chavura, community of friends.

This tight-knit community now spans the country, as they recruited friends eager to embark on a shared journey of Jewish learning.

Through regular virtual gatherings, this group has cultivated a powerful community, bound by their learning, deep conversation and thoughtful exploration.

Another Adult Learning participant channels her learning into insightful poetry.

Her poetic verses beautifully capture the essence of what she learns, becoming a unique expression of the profound impact that Jewish education can have on one's creative spirit.

She shares her poetry with her classmates and these stanzas have become sought after additions to the courses as well expressions shared at peers' Shabbat tables.

These examples are a testament to the multifaceted ways in which our learners engage with and internalize the rich tapestry of Jewish wisdom.

CAJE’s Department of Adult Learning & Growth fosters a community where the magic of Jewish education becomes a pathway to see the world through a Jewish lens.
