Bruchah Haba’ah/ A Warm Welcome to Rabbi Laila Haas, CAJE’s new Director of Adult Learning and Growth, who will officially begin May 2nd.
As part of the process for finding our new Director, we received over 30 applications from many well-qualified and exciting local, national and international candidates for the position. We asked for the usual cover letters and resumes. After narrowed them down to six, they were asked for video clips of Divrei Torah as well as answers to key questions. We called references and then narrowed the field to three. A few days ago, we held our final interview with our Search Committee and had an informal meeting of each candidate with senior CAJE staff before making a final decision.
Laila stood out as someone truly talented in a great many areas. As a rabbi and educator, she is passionate about nurturing relationships, designing spaces of meaningful engagement and bringing to life the wisdom and richness of Jewish tradition. She cherishes moments that awaken spiritual curiosity, and experiencing the profound impact of Jewish learning and community.

She attended The University of Miami and received her Bachelor of Arts as a Judaic Studies major. In addition, she is a lifelong learner and has attended executive education programs at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, ReNewed Jewish Leaders course, and The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business, High Performance Leadership course.
From 2011-2018, Rabbi Haas served as Associate Rabbi and Director of Education at Temple Emanu-El, a congregation of 700 families, in Birmingham, Alabama. During her tenure at Temple Emanu-El, she founded The Discovery School, a preschool for all children, re-imagined the Religious and Hebrew School programs, developed educational programming for young professionals, led the Rosh Chodesh Women’s study group, and taught Torah study. She developed and facilitated think tanks, visioning workshops, leadership training, volunteer recruitment efforts, teacher training, and curriculum development.
As a rabbi and educator she sheps naches/ finds joy as people experience awe when Torah awakens their spirit and ignites their quest to learn, study and engage more deeply with the richness of our tradition.
Laila and her husband Will Evans, a management consultant leading organizational design and strategy, are excited to be back in Miami and actively engaged with the Jewish community that means so much to them.
