In June, CAJE’s Department of Adult Learning launched a Summer program offering 26 classes. To date, there are 380 registrations— the highest number ever and double last year’s numbers.
There are people learning with CAJE from all over Florida, as well as students from Illinois, New York, Rhode Island, Washington State, Washington DC, Ohio, New Jersey, Canada and Israel. We welcomed new faculty to our team and expanded our course offerings to include a wide range of themes and topics. As a result of the online platform, faculty are taking each other’s courses for the first time too.
Beyond the quantitative measures, CAJE Adult Learning is significantly addressing the socio-emotional needs of our community of learners by providing intellectual stimulation and a consistent space for people to participate, discuss, share, grow, connect and find meaning. Many of our learners report this has been a life-saver:

I’m so grateful for the opportunity to participate in Zoom online learning with Melton & More. Health issues have prevented me from attending onsite classes in the past year. This has been the greatest experience …. Bless you!”
“As a retiree and a widow, I live by myself. The fear of being isolated was overwhelming. To be honest, I didn’t know how I was going to get through this . Then I received an email from Melton & More sharing that all of the classes were going to be held online. Online, where? What’s Zoom? Holding my hand through the whole process, CAJE Adult Learning helped me become an online learning pro ! I cannot express fully how the experience of Melton & More online learning has transformed my life during this time. Melton & More has become my lifeline! My Melton & More online classes continue to be the favorite part of my week, and the bonus is I don’t have to get out of my pajamas!”

Online learning has enabled us to welcome back many people who have not engaged with CAJE classes for some time and welcome new people from all over the US and beyond. It has also helped us overcome the “great regional divide ,” in which people were forced to take classes regionally because of geography and traffic.
Since going online in March, CAJE has engaged over 1,000 people in Adult Jewish learning experiences. We feel blessed to participate in the sacred work of learning, community, and connection. We are always exploring new and interesting ways of bringing companionship, conversation and stimulating learning into the homes of our learners in ways that nurture and empower them.
We invite you to take part in our July summer courses and hope you too will find the experience meaningful, relevant and dynamic.
