Diller Teen Fellows is unlike any other program, offering extraordinary and invaluable opportunities to teens as participants during the fellowship and for a lifetime as Jewish leaders. How is Diller Different? The Diller experience does not end after the Fellowship year. Internationally, the Diller Teen Fellows staff are investing in their alumni network, offering countless programs and opportunities to continue to learn, grow, and make a difference in the world.
One of those opportunities is the Alumni Impact Micro-Grant, offering up to $2,500 to Diller Alumni to continue to grow their impact projects that they began as fellows. Miami Cohort 5 alumna Rachel Kaplan, has just been awarded a Diller micro-grant for her amazing project, the Sensory Dispensary.
"I am a sixteen-year-old girl who has been heavily involved in the Fragile X community. Fragile X is a rare genetic disease closely related to Autism. Growing up, I have raised money through bake sales for research into Fragile X. I have also gone to Capitol Hill for three years now to advocate for policies that support Fragile X.
After spending a year in Diller, I was inspired to take a leadership position and start my own project. Diller has allowed me to gain the tools and values necessary to create the Sensory Dispensary. I am excited to see where this project will take me. I hope to expand the Sensory Dispensary through compassion, ambition, and dedication so I can leave my mark in my community." -Rachel Kaplan (Diller Alumna, Cohort 5)
The depth of the Diller program, global engagement, and a focus on experiential learning, create an enduring impact on participants and their families, building leaders with the power to enact change. The teens graduate from the program to join the ranks of thousands of alumni, studying at top universities and leaving their mark on the world, leveraging the network of young leaders around the world that they established during the program.
"I used the skills that I learned from Diller-- including time management, prioritizing, and communication-- to become a strong leader. This project embraces the core experience of Tikkun Olam, allowing me to give back to the community. I am able to help find a solution to a relevant problem. Pluralism, another one of the Diller core experiences, is also reflected in my project. Instead of not being able to visit a stressful location, the Sensory Dispensary is finding a way to celebrate and accommodate these individuals." -Rachel Kaplan
The importance and impact of the Diller Teen Fellows community is one that lasts a lifetime, fostering a wide international network, platforms to be agents of change and better the world, and to continue to develop and cultivate leadership skills in application and action.
Diller Teen Fellows Program, an international immersive leadership program, is seeking 20 extraordinary teens entering 10th or 11th grade for its next cohort beginning this Fall. Participants will attend a variety of meaningful and educational events, including Sunday workshops, thought-provoking weekend retreats, a peer-exchange with the Yerucham Diller Teens when they come to Miami, and an inspiring three-week seminar in Israel.
