The Leadership Shabbaton

A few weeks ago, Diller Miami Cohort 7 spent the weekend learning and growing as leaders and Jews at their second Shabbaton.

This Shabbaton, the “Leadership Shabbaton,” was organized almost entirely by the Fellows themselves. Fellows had the opportunity to work in committees to plan the programming that would make up the weekend, ranging from pluralistic and creative Shabbat programs, to group bonding, and more. The teens worked together with different communication styles, time constraints, and through their busy schedules to learn what it takes to work as a group and produce programming for their peers that would be meaningful, engaging, and thought-provoking!

“Our most recent Shabbaton as a cohort was my favorite because the bulk of the activities that we participated in were fellow-organized and fellow-facilitated. Seeing my friends take this amount of initiative to create engaging programs on this level really inspired me to continue to develop my skills as an interactive leader.” -Goldi LieberPerson, Cohort 7 Fellow

The Fellows explored what leadership means to them, how there are different ways of leading, what style of leadership they most closely identify with, and how they can grow as leaders by addressing their challenges and celebrating their strengths through constructive feedback. At the end of the weekend, the Fellows were not only able to understand themselves more, but they were closely bonded as a group and expressed that they had a fun and enjoyable time together.
