Description

This mini-course will explore the origins of Jewish superstitions, Formal Religion vs. Folk Religion, amulets, protective sayings, red strings and other lucky charms. We will also discuss the Yiddish stories and other Jewish folk traditions about angels, demons, dybbuks, ghosts, and other things that go bump in the night. Participants will be encouraged to bring in and share family/personal superstitions.
