March is life-changing trip for Miami-Dade teens
Teenagers from Miami-Dade County recently joined thousands of others from around the world for an emotional life-changing March of the Living trip to Poland in memory of the Holocaust.
The March of the Living is an annual educational program that brings individuals from all over the world to Poland and Israel in order to study the history of the Holocaust and to examine the roots of prejudice, intolerance and hate. The participants commemorated Yom HaShoah in Poland where they visited Krakow and the sites of the Warsaw Ghetto and concentration camps. They then celebrated Israel Independence Day at the Jewish state the following week.
"For me, it was definitely impactful because it wasn't something I was forced to do," said Grace Gilbert of Miami, who recently graduated high school from Gulliver Preparatory School in Pinecrest. "It was something I wanted to do so for me, emotionally, it was really intense because I had family who went through the Holocaust and I was the first one to go back to Poland from my family."
