Joy Schandler graduated from Douglass College, Rutgers University, earning a BA in Religion and went on to receive her master’s degree in Jewish education from the Jewish Theological Seminary of America.
After working for several years as a Jewish educator in New York city Joy received a fellowship from the Jewish Education Service of North America to work here at CAJE where she coordinated adult Jewish education offerings in Broward County. Yearning to get closer to children, families and teachers, Joy left CAJE to become the first professional director of the religious school at Temple Beth Am in Margate and later became the director of the congregational education programs at Bet Shira Congregation for 11 years and Temple Beth Am for 13 years.
Upon returning to CAJE Joy is leading the Early Childhood Education Directors and Congregational Directors professional networks and creating professional development opportunities geared towards the needs of directors and teachers. She is particularly proud of the work CAJE is doing in developing and running the Jewish Resource Specialist (JRS) Initiative, a three-year pilot program generously funded by the GMJF, embedded in 5 early childhood education centers.
